Volunteer Coordinator Needed for Annual Charles River Cleanup on April 27

The Charles River Watershed Association is seeking a volunteer coordinator for the Annual Charles River Cleanup for Newton, Weston and Wellesley areas.

The Charles River Cleanup has been held annually in April around Earth Day for the last 20 years. Volunteer groups clean up the shore from the debris accumulated during the winter all along the river on a Saturday morning. This year’s Annual Charles River Cleanup will be Saturday, April 27 from 9am until 12pm. CRWA and the DCR work with a number of conservation organizations, to plan and coordinate this event. Our coordinator for the Newton, Weston, and Wellesley area, Nathan Philips, who is an individual volunteer, has been coordinating this area for the last few years. He is now looking to pass this job back to a conservation group. The task includes: going to a number of coordinating meetings, contacting volunteer groups that sign up through a web site run by CRWA, and assigning groups areas to clean and getting the supplies to each of these groups. Newton and Waltham also sponsor a picnic after the morning event for the volunteers. Support will be offered to anyone who volunteers for this job from CWRA as well as the other coordinators who have done this for a number of years. You may contact me at [email protected] for more information.
