Thinking about adding solar panels to your roof? Newton Adult Education is offering the one evening course “Going Solar: Adding a Rooftop Solar System’ (course code G237-F17) on Wednesday, October 18 from 7-9pm at Newton North High School, 2nd Floor (457 Walnut Street, Newtonville).
You’ve seen solar panels popping up on rooftops all over town and have probably heard from suppliers offering to give you a free quote. Due to generous tax incentives and the relatively high cost of electricity, MA is one of the best states for adding a rooftop solar energy system. We’ll discuss the components of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system and what it can do for both the environment and your household budget. We’ll investigate purchasing versus leasing, what to look for when selecting a supplier, system design, financing, how to calculate break-even time, and the steps to follow to bring your rooftop solar system online.

Craig Forman is a board member of Green Newton, who created a course in Going Solar as a result of his solar project, which includes 26 rooftop solar panels and became operational in 2015. The project involved several months of investigation with many potential suppliers. Craig, who leads Newton Goes Solar, does not work for or represent any supplier in the solar industry.
