Do you have an old refrigerator or freezer wasting energy? The Sponsors of Mass Save® – Cape Light Compact, Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil – are offering no cost pickup and haul away to residential electric customers who recycle their old, outdated, and inefficient refrigerators or freezers through the Mass Save appliance recycling program.

Whether you’re replacing a fridge or freezer and want help safely disposing of the old unit or have an extra fridge or freezer in your garage or basement that you don’t need any more, Mass Save’s appliance recycling program can haul away and recycle that old unit.

In order to be eligible for the program, you must:

1. Be a valid residential electric account holder of one of the Sponsors of Mass Save
2. Refrigerators or freezers must be working, plugged in, clean, and empty at the time of pickup
3. Refrigerators and freezers must have an inside measurement between 10 and 30 cubic feet, which is the standard size for most units
4. Maximum two units per household per calendar year will be accepted

Ready to recycle? Schedule your NO COST pickup online or by phone. Have your electric account number handy to avoid scheduling delays.

Not only will you get no cost pickup, but we’ll give you a rebate for participating in the program.

Additionally, older refrigerators and freezers use less efficient technology, which can increase energy costs up to $100 a year compared to newer models. That means you will save by upgrading or getting rid of an old, un-needed unit. The following infographic shows how all the components of your refrigerator can be recycled:
