Natural gas is not safe, not clean, not green.
For the past four years, Mothers Out Front Newton has been raising awareness of the hazards of leaking gas to our homes, our health, and our children’s future. Gas can cause explosions and fires, pollutes our air indoors and out, and kills our trees. Plus, the utilities charge us for the lost gas.
This month MOF Newton created the Newton Gas Leak Gazette to help spread the word about this dangerous issue, because the problem is getting worse. The number of Newton’s unrepaired gas leaks has grown to more than 900! See Newton’s Gas Leaks Map.
MOF Newton organizes an annual gas leak tagging event in neighborhoods around Newton, advocates for National Grid to be more accountable and transparent about their policies and gas infrastructure, and lobbies for state and local policies that will help fix gas pipeline leaks and transition to clean energy.
