Like many Newton residents, Shelley and Dick Abrahams had a Mass Save Home Energy Assessment with follow-up work “to save money and to become more energy efficient.” After insulation was added in their attic by Green Newton’s partner, Able Home Performance, Shelley noticed that “It’s much less drafty and warmer on the second floor.” What’s more, she and her husband Dick were thrilled to win a $250 Whole Foods Market gift card in a raffle drawing for Newton residents who had energy upgrades with Able Home Performance from October through the end of 2017.
Incentives continue for Newton residents who sign agreements to get insulation, air sealing or new boilers in their homes by the end of March 2018 using Able Home Performance. They will be entered in a drawing to win a $250 Legal Seafood gift card, compliments of Legal Seafood and Able Home Performance. Also, qualified residents who have had a home energy assessment, or who get one, are eligible for up to a 75 percent Mass Save discount on insulation (up to $2,000) and up to 12 hours of air-sealing work at no cost. Funding comes from small charges on customers’ energy bills.
The City of Newton and Green Newton set a goal of 600 assessments and 400 energy upgrades to be completed in a 16-month time-frame, by Earth Day 2018. As of the end of December, 710 assessments and 490 energy upgrades were completed, so the bar is now set to exceed the initial goal and achieve even greater cost and energy savings.
Visit NewtonSaves.com or call 781-436-2639 to schedule a no-cost Home Energy Assessment (eligible every two years) or Mass Save Energy Upgrade. During the winter season, residents will also find inserts in their water bills with information about this program.
