Bark: Get to Know Your Trees

November 20, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Bark: Get to Know Your Trees
> Connect with nature and increase your enjoyment of the great outdoors this fall
and winter – learn to identify our trees even without their leaves!
> Speaker and author Michael Wojtech points out that the traits typically used to
describe trees—leaves, twigs, and buds—are often hard to see in a tall tree, or
are absent for half the year – but bark is always visible, in any season. Explore
bark and learn Michael’s system for identifying tree species by their bark. Find
out why such a variety of bark characteristics exist – why some species have
smooth bark, while on others it is thick and broken – and why does bark peel?
> Join co-sponsors Newton Tree Conservancy, Newton Conservators, and Green Newton
for this program at the Newton Senior Center, Monday November 20th, 7 pm.
