On Saturday, June 23 from 9:30am-12:30pm, make sure to stop by the Newton Farmers’ Market’s opening day ‘Gardening Fair’ at Elm Street in West Newton Square to perk up your garden. Some of the plants and seedlings available for purchase from growers include:
Herbs: basil, oregano, parsley, chives, thyme, mint, dill, cilantro, sage
Vegetables: tomatoes, peppers, hot peppers, eggplant, cucumbers
Edible flowers: borage, calendula, anise hysop
Flowers: black-eyed susan, sunflowers
In addition to plants, the gardening fair will include other products & services, like beehive installations, backyard chicken rentals, biochar soil amendments, composting services, hydroponic plants towers, & more!

Why are bees disappearing? What can each of us do to help bee populations grow? Immediately following the Newton Farmers’ Market’s Opening Day Gardening Fair, Adam Collier, Newton resident, gardener, and beekeeper, will cover the biology of bees and the real factors threatening their survival. Adam will also show off some of his beekeeping tools and share tricks of the trade. During the presentation, Paddy’s Pub will provide a special lunch for attendees.
